KILIMANJARO CLIMBING

KILIMANJARO
The highest point in Africa is just three degrees below the equator and its two peaks Kibo ( 5,893m) and Mawenzi (5149m ) are permanently snow capped.

Its breath taking beauty has to be seen and experienced by one personally. Ascent and descent takes 5 days and can be climbed by any normal fit person with the assistance of experienced mountain guides and porters, Kilimanjaro can be climbed at any time of the year.

SUGGESTED INTINERARIES:

1. TOUR CODE ESL/KC/114: LEMOSHO ROUTE -9 DAYS

  • DAY 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to Kijenge Farm House in Arusha.
  • DAY 2: Breakfast, Drive to the gate of Londorosi for a few minute of registration and other formalities. The 4WD will take you further up to Lemosho glades, thereafter you can walk for about 4hrs to Mti Mkubwa Campsite (9,200ft) Dinner and overnight at the camp, B.L.D.
  • DAY 3: Breakfast, leave the Mti Mkubwa campsite for Shira plateau (11,550ft), walking through the moorland steepenning track. Dinner and Overnight at the Shira I Camp, B.L.D.
  • DAY 4: Breakfast, hike across the high desert to Shira II camp (12,220ft) with significant acclimatization effect as we goes up the mountain. B, L, D.
  • DAY 5: After breakfast, we leave Shira II for Baranco hut (13,100ft). We will pass through the last water drop at Karanga valley on the way up. Overnight Baranco hut, B, L, D.
  • DAY 6: After breakfast, we leave Baranco hut for Barafu hut (14,910ft). We will pass through the last water drop at Karanga valley on the way up. Overnight Barafu hut, B, L, D.
  • DAY 7: Wake up at midnight, and after a small snack, start ascending to Uhuru Peak through the Stella point (18,640ft), then after reaching the summit, we will head down to Mweka hut (10,100ft) for dinner and overnight, B, L, D.
  • DAY 8: After breakfast, we will head down to Mweka gate with lunch packet, and the waiting vehicle will take you to Kijenge Farm House in Arusha, Dinner and Overnight.
  • DAY 9: Transfer to the airport for your return flight.




    Basically, our land arrangements INCLUDE:
  • Arrival and departure airport transfers.
  • 2 nights accommodations in a basic hotel (Bed and Breakfast), before and after the climb.
  • Accommodation in mountain tents/huts.
  • Meals as indicated (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner)
  • All park fees, including mountain rescue fees, and government taxes.
  • Services of our own trained English-speaking mountain guide, and a skilled cook, and enough numbers of porters for your luggage, food, and water, and a dinning tent.
  • Transport from your hotel to the mountain, and back to your hotel


    EXCLUDE:
  • Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to Kijenge Farm House in Arusha.
  • DAY2: Breakfast, drive from your hotel to Marangu gate, we will spend about two hours for registration, payments of fees and final parking. Start climbing through dense semi-tropical to the first hut- Mandara hut (9,000ft). Dinner and an overnight stay at Mandara hut, B.L.D.
  • DAY3: Breakfast, ascend through the alpine meadow, and grassland and moorland to Horombo hut (12,000ft). Both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks can be viewed easily on the way. Dinner and an overnight stay at Horombo hut, B.L.D.
  • DAY4: Breakfast, further ascending to Kibo hut (15,000ft). The landscape becomes very stony and eroded.
  • Spectacular mountain vegetation like giant cactus, groundswell and lobelia appear on the way. Dinner and an overnight stay at Kibo hut, B.L.D.
  • DAY5: Wake up at midnight, and after a snack, proceed to the summit through Gilman's point (18,640ft). It is about 5-6hours and 1-2 hours from Kibo hut to Gilman's point and from Gilman's point to Uhuru Peak (19,340ft) respectively. Thus reaching the peak in the early morning of the fifth day and start descending after picture taking on the top to Horombo hut for diner and an overnight after a short break at Kibo hut, B.L.D.
  • DAY6: Breakfast, Descend from Horombo hut to Marangu gate. The waiting car will take you to Kijenge Farm House in Arusha, B.L.
  • DAY7: Transfer to the airport for your return flight, B.
    Option: One may choose 6days/5nights, with an extra day for acclimatization at Horombo hut, which will increase his/her chance to reach the top.




3. TOUR CODE ESL/KC/113: MACHAME ROUTE -8DAYS

  • Day 1. Arusha: Arrival JRO transfer to Kijenge Farm House. B/B
  • Day 2. Machame Hut Drive to Machame Village. The climb begins at the end of the tarmac road, walking for about 6 hrs gradually ascending through the forested hills onwards to Machame Hut (3000m). Dinner and overnight.
  • Day 3. Shira Hut: Early in the morning, you will cross a valley and stream before ascending a steep ridge. The path then drops into a river gorge before you climb more gently onto the moorland of the Shira plateau - 3,800m. Total climbing time is about 6hrs. Dinner and overnight.
  • Day 4. Barranco Hut: The path continues directly up the ridge towards Kibo, then turns right and descends into Barranco gorge. Climb to Barranco hut at 3940m shortly after. Total climbing time is about 6 hrs. Dinner and overnight.
  • Day 5. Barafu Hut: Crossing the Barranco Valley, climb the Barranco wall (not technical climbing), then follow the Kibo South Circuit. You will then turn left and climb up a ridge for about 2 hrs to Barafu hut at 4,600m . Dinner and overnight.
  • Day 6. Mweka Hut :Very early start for the summit first to Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak at 5895m. After sunrise, descend down to Mweka hut, which takes about 6 hrs. Dinner and overnight.
  • Day 7. Mweka Gate: This is the last day of your climb. You will descend to Mweka Gate where you will be met our vehicles and Kijenge Farm House in Arusha.
  • Day 8: Departure.
